a black, white, and red wedding

I muted the colors of this board a little, so it’s not your typical black, white and red wedding. Hoping to be able to get back to daily posting next week.. Have a good weekend everyone!

bridesmaid dresses from department stores

**Quick Update: Hey guys! I am having some computer issues so I haven’t been able to put together my “Daily Decor” feature so far this week. Fingers crossed that everything is fixed today- I miss my Adobe Illustrator badly! Hopefully I’ll be back tomorrow with the feature**

I was browsing Macy’s site last week and decided to check out their dress selection. I know a lot of brides head straight to the bridal shop to hunt for dresses, but don’t forget about the department store down the street at the mall! Check out what I found online- some are on sale!

a red & sea green rocker wedding

This inspiration board came together totally different than how it started! This wedding has a old school rock feel with pops of red and bright sea green. There’s nothing typical or traditional about this affair! It’s ideal for the rocker chick!

a rustic, red and brown wedding

Red doesn’t really rank up there as one of my favorite colors, but I am really feeling this inspiration board. This wedding combines a deeper, muted red color with weathered wood details. I kept the browns as the main color and just used touches of red so they really stood out. It’s got a tiny bit of a country vibe, but I don’t picture cowboy boots and horseshoes at this wedding. Ok…maybe a cowboy hat- but that’s it.

Thank you so much Lindsay for sharing and congratulation to you and Keith! I’ll leave you with some of her advice, as always. :-)

~~~~~~~~
Best cost-saving advice: Have you wedding in the off-season! That alone saved us literally THOUSANDS! Our pp cost for food at the reception would have been about $13 more (which would have added $2,500 overall to the reception cost) had we gotten married from between March-October.
If you can splurge, do it here: Brides, for the love of all that is holy, hire a great photographer! None of this “my-cousin-said-he’ll-shoot-the-wedding-for-$500″ deal. Shell out the extra bucks to have an awesome photographer, no matter what your style may be. Yes, even if that means you have to scrap your fantasy of pearl-studded stephanotis or a $5,000 Reem Acra. *Snort* And one more thing! None of these massive “must-have shots” list. If you hire a photographer that you can trust, allow them the creative freedom of coming up with shots on their own. They will appreciate it!
Also, consider hiring a great videographer. Again, it is a decision your will not regret! Simply put, you cannot get those moments back – the first dance with hubs and your father, the way your hubs is looking at you when you walk down the aisle (trust me, you won’t remember unless you have this on film), etc. This is definitely an area where your money will be well spent.
Don’t bother with: Transportation costs, a full bar with liquor (we only had beer and wine only and got no complaints!) and expensive paper products.
Other Advice: Make sure your vendors understand your “vision.” The major communication breakdowns that occurred between me and my vendors is because the vendors could not connect with my vision. Florist and grooms cake are the two that come to mind. In the end, everything worked out, but the added stress of trying to explain your vision to people over and over was unnecessary and stressful. Enjoy the planning process as much as possible and personalize your wedding to suit your and hub’s personalities! Don’t be afraid to take risks!
Thank you so much Charise for sharing your budget! I’ll leave you with some of her advice.
Advice from the bride:
Best cost-saving advice: Have your ceremony and reception in the same location and/or on an “off day”.  This saved on cost and transportation.   Have your wedding in a location that doesn’t need much decorating.
If you can splurge, do it here:  Location.  In my opinion, guests tend to remember THEIR experience at your wedding.  If the location, food, and ambiance is set to take them to a “certain place” and makes them feel good, the bride can almost walk out in a gunny sack and it wouldn’t matter (of course I exaggerate…).
Don’t bother with:  For the budget bride, don’t bother with having an open bar.  I had a “wine tasting” at our reception, so it steered people’s minds away from the open bar.  We had each type of wine (2 reds and 2 whites) on a separate table with a sign explaining the wine and its characteristics at each table.  We got so many compliments from people who had never been to a wedding featuring a wine tasting.  Little did they know we were psyching them out trying to save some cash…
Other Advice:
If you’re on a budget, think outside of the box.  If a florist isn’t in your budget, don’t pass up the idea of DIYing fresh flowers using online vendors.  Just practice a couple of times before you actually do them, and stick to really simple, hearty flowers that will be next to impossible to kill (roses and gerber daisies work well here).  DIY as much as possible, and try not to rent anything if at all possible.  On the flip side, if you know you’re not crafty, don’t try to DIY things that you really know you won’t be able to pull off.  Redos can cost as much or more than buying already made.
Get on mailing lists for coupons for places like Joann’s and Michael’s.  I did major damage with all of the 40% off coupons I used.  And don’t forget about Vista Prints.  They have so many free or next to free products.  You can get lots of your paper products done through them…CHEAPLY…
Ask your vendors if they have discounts or are having sales.  I got discounts with all of my vendors this way.  Be honest with your vendors about your budget (if you’re a budget bride), and ask for suggestions for cost savings.  Asking helped me weed people out.  Those that were firm with their numbers and had nothing to offer with suggestions, got nixed off my list…made my job THAT much easier.  Those that were willing to help me got my business.  It made it appear that they wanted my business and cared about the product/service they offered.
